Rugely B Power Station
Rugely B Power Station
An Aerial view of Rugely B Power Station, taken just before the chimneys were demolished in June 2021.
The Coal fired power station, located on the river Trent at Rugely, Staffordshire, began construction in 1964. It was designed by architects L.K Watson & H.J Coates who, apparently, coloured two of the four cooling towers a pinkish red colour to heighten what they saw as the “feminising of the hyperbolic form”.
Interesting statistics :
Rugely B used two 5MW generating sets which could produce 8,760,000 Mwh each year.
1.6 million tonnes of coal was burnt per year.
